Sacred Abode of Lord Vishnu

About Badrinath Temple

Badrinath Temple is a major Vaishnavite pilgrimage shrine, an essential part of the Char Dham circuit and the fourth stop in the traditional journey.

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Badrinarayan, the shrine stands in the upper Alaknanda valley between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges. Its vivid temple facade, river setting and high-altitude landscape create a distinct spiritual experience.

Badrinath town is reached by motor road during the operating season, so no long temple trek is normally required. The long mountain drive, altitude, low temperature and changing traffic controls still demand a carefully paced plan.

Daily darshan, aarti, bhog and special puja arrangements follow current temple rules and availability. Pilgrims should verify official timings instead of relying on old schedules or informal priority-darshan offers.

Important: Road access does not remove altitude risk. Rest properly, keep warm clothing in the vehicle and confirm current traffic controls, temple timings and opening status before leaving Joshimath or Pandukeshwar.

Road, Base & Final Approach

How to Reach Badrinath

Most journeys begin at Haridwar or Rishikesh and follow the Alaknanda valley through the Panch Prayag route toward Joshimath, Pandukeshwar and Badrinath.

1

Haridwar / Rishikesh to Srinagar Sector

Travel through Devprayag and continue along the Alaknanda valley with buffer for traffic, meals and weather.

2

Srinagar to Joshimath

Proceed through the Rudraprayag and Karnaprayag side. Joshimath is a major base for the upper Badrinath sector.

3

Joshimath / Pandukeshwar to Badrinath

Start according to current road and traffic instructions, as movement controls or temporary holds may apply.

4

Temple Darshan

Park only in designated areas and follow local queue, footwear, security and photography instructions near the temple.

5

Return with Daylight Buffer

Allow sufficient time for road delays and avoid unnecessary late-night mountain driving.

Mountain-road travel time can change significantly because of weather, landslides, maintenance, pilgrim traffic and local movement controls. Keep the day plan flexible.
