Sacred Abode of Lord Shiva

About Kedarnath Temple

Kedarnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, an important Char Dham shrine and the foremost temple in the Panch Kedar tradition.

The stone temple stands in the upper Mandakini valley beneath high Himalayan peaks. Its remote setting, demanding approach and deep association with Lord Shiva make the journey both physically challenging and spiritually powerful.

Pilgrims generally travel by road to the Sonprayag sector, continue according to the current local transport system to Gaurikund, and then complete the notified mountain route by foot or an authorized assisted option. Weather, crowd controls and local route arrangements can change during the season.

Darshan and puja arrangements operate according to temple rules and availability. Morning and evening worship, Rudrabhishek and other services should be verified only through current official temple information.

Important: Do not treat pony, palki or helicopter availability as guaranteed. Confirm current authorized counters, route rules, reporting time and weather status before starting, and never buy helicopter tickets from unofficial agents.

1

Haridwar / Rishikesh to Guptkashi Sector

Travel through the Alaknanda and Mandakini valleys. Guptkashi, Phata, Sitapur and nearby locations are commonly used as bases according to the confirmed plan.

2

Base to Sonprayag

Start early and follow current vehicle, parking and pilgrim movement controls in the Sonprayag area.

3

Sonprayag to Gaurikund

Use the currently authorized local transfer arrangement and complete any applicable checking before entering the mountain route.

4

Gaurikund to Kedarnath

Continue on the notified route by foot or an officially available pony/palki service. Current distance, route diversions and service counters must be confirmed locally.

Heavy rain may affect roads, the walking route and helicopter operations. Follow official alerts and avoid rigid schedules.
