About Yamunotri Temple
Yamunotri Temple is the first sacred stop in the traditional west-to-east Char Dham Yatra and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna.
The temple is set in a narrow Himalayan valley in Uttarkashi district, surrounded by mountains, hot springs and the upper Yamuna landscape. Pilgrims normally approach through Barkot, Hanuman Chatti and Janki Chatti.
The motor road ends around Janki Chatti, after which pilgrims continue on the notified uphill route. Walking, pony and palki options may be available through authorized local systems, subject to current rules and operating conditions.
Important: Start early, carry light luggage and confirm the current route distance, entry timing and pony/palki system locally before beginning the climb.
