About Devprayag Sangam
Devprayag is the sacred meeting point of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, which flow onward from this confluence under the name Ganga.
As the fifth and final confluence in the downstream Panch Prayag sequence, Devprayag holds a defining place in the sacred geography of Uttarakhand. The differently coloured currents of the two rivers can often be seen meeting below the old hill town.
The name is traditionally linked with sage Dev Sharma, who is believed to have performed penance here. Sacred traditions also connect Devprayag with Lord Rama and King Dasharatha, strengthening the town’s importance as a place of prayer and pilgrimage.
Raghunathji Temple, dedicated to Lord Rama, is the principal shrine. The old town, temple steps, river ghats and Sangam together create a layered spiritual experience that deserves an unhurried visit.
Important: The walk to the Sangam involves many steps. River currents are strong, so use handrails, obey ghat instructions and do not enter the water unless current local rules clearly allow it.
